Set in Sacramento in the early 2000s, Christine, who calls herself Lady Bird, is facing her senior year at a Catholic high school and dreams of studying on the East Coast. Her relationship with Marion, her working mother, is complex: full of love but also tension. Christine joins the drama club, experiences her first heartbreak with Danny, who ends up kissing another boy, and later begins a relationship with Kyle. Through these experiences, and amidst family expectations and her own longings, Lady Bird learns who she really is and what home means.
